My Thoughts - Contains Spoilers, Continue at Your Own Risk
I thought this book was excellent! As much as I enjoyed the first book, I was eager to read this one; anticipating that it was going to be just as good. Sometimes I tend to enjoy sequels to books more, because a lot of the character development is already done. This sequel did not disappoint! I felt like the character development for the new characters introduced was done quickly, keeping you hooked into the story without you ever feeling like the plot was paused. I thought the subtle nods to the first book were a great touch...."I'd rather yank my own tooth out with a pair of pliers." I thought they were a fun addition, yet subtle enough that if you happened to not read the first book, you wouldn't be lost; You just may miss the joke. I also thought this book had more funny moments...Amber saying she breastfed Olive for over a week has to amount for something made me snicker. I feel like we all know someone like that. Maybe it was just my type of humor that thought it was funny, but I thought it gave the book a lighter feeling.
As I never got on board with Millie and Brock, I can't say I personally ever suspected him. Maybe because Millie is so damaged, as you know from the first book, that you just know she would never be able to completely be happy or feel comfortable with someone like Brock. He just seemed too obvious to be involved, in my opinion. I can't say I was so excited to read that Enzo was Millie's ex boyfriend, but given he knows her history it made sense. After reading the first book, I wanted Millie and Enzo to get together, but after reading that Nina and Enzo were together, it almost made me feel like Millie was Enzo's second option. Either way, not a hill I will die on.
Probably the part that I enjoyed the most about this book was the ability to read it with zero expectations. I didn't have any guesses as to where the twists were, I had suspicions that everything with Wendy just seemed too obvious, but nothing that I made a guess at. It was so refreshing to be able to just read a good book while sitting on the edge of my seat. Honestly, I couldn't read this book fast enough!
I'm Curious
Did you find it odd that Enzo could never go back to Italy, then all of a sudden everything was fine and there was nothing more offered? I would have loved to know more about what happened to those bad men..... Is Enzo part of some kind of Italian mob? Would explain all the "guys" he knows for everything. I feel like I need more about this!
Did you ever doubt Enzo? I personally suspected him for a bit when Wendy revealed Daniel was at the farm waiting for her. Mostly because I didn't suspect the Russel twist.
Were you suprised by Marybeth killing Wendy and Russel? I was, and am a little undecided on whether or not I feel like someone that sweet natured would be capable of a double murder.
Did you think Brock was going to forgive Millie at any point of the book? I was hoping that was NOT the reason for him visiting her after they broke up.
How did you feel about the dinamic of Wendy and Russel? He seemed just too ok with murder in my opinion, even if he was more go with the flow and she was more the pants of the relationship.
