Summary In My Words

After swearing she was leaving the detective life behind, Pip is back for season two of A Good Girl's Guide To Murder. Pip is persuaded to pick back up her investigative skills when her best friend's brother goes missing. Jaime Reynolds was acting suspicious the night he disappeared. Not only that, his behavior seemed unpredictable and erratic in the weeks leading up to it...not typical behavior from someone Pip knew the majority of her life. The police seem too busy to investigate, and Pip is determined to bring Jaime home safely.

My Thoughts - Contains Spoilers, Continue at Your Own Risk

This is Holly Jackson's second book in her three book series, A Good Girls Guide to Murder. A little refresher, I did like the first book. I believe the series is classified as young adult and it read as young adult. It is easy to read, not terrible deep, enough mystery to hold your attention but nothing too gripping that you can't put it down. Even though I did like book one, I wasn't running to read book two.

I, personally, liked this book better than book one. I thought it was a fun twist to have Tom Nowak lie about seeing Jaime, just to get his name in the podcast. I did figure that Charlie and Flora Green was going to be more than just new neighbors, especially when Charlie mentions to Pip that he was slighted by justice as well. Seemed obvious to me that his comment was significant. The Child Brunswick twist did seem almost thrown in there, but I actually thought that Child Brunswick was Charlie Green, not Stanley Forbes. That was a fun surprise.

I also appreciated the evolution of Pip in this book. I felt like she was just a bit more relatable, less up tight and obsessive, yet still passionate. I feel like the author had to do this a little bit given all the danger she put Pip's character through in the first book.

Overall, I feel like this one made me more excited to finish the series than the first book did. I thought it was nice to have a lot of the character development done and out of the way, since this is a series, so there was a bit more storyline to read. I really wasn't sure what to except with this one, given realistically how much can really happen to one person in their life, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm Curious

  1. How did Ant and Lauren's behavior sit with you? Did you feel frustrated for Connor and Pip by Ant and Lauren's lack of support?

  2. We're you surprised that Ant and Lauren ended up taking the side that this was a manufactured plot to get a season two of GGGTM?

  3. Do you think Pip's behavior differed from her behavior in book one? Do you think there were similarities?

  4. How did you feel when you found out Stanley Forbes helped his dad lure and murder children when he was a child? Do you feel like he was a victim himself?

  5. Charlie and Flora Green: Do you feel like their story is unfinished? So far they have not been caught but do you think Holly Jackson revisits this in book three?
